Can we talk for a minute about how good Daft Punk are? Because Daft Punk are so good. They take really simple samples- most of this song is taken from the opening of a 70’s love ballad- and make them into beautiful, danceable anthems that are repetitious without ever actually seeming like they’re repeating themselves. They’ve merged together so many styles- from House to Disco to minimalistic rock and most everything in between- but yet every song I’ve heard from them is still recognizably Daft Punk. They’re an electronic group that nevertheless made one of my favorite live albums ever, Alive 2007, in which they remixed all of their songs with one another in crazy ways. They made the soundtrack to a boring blockbuster summer movie (Tron: Legacy) that still turned out amazing. They’re the musical common denominator between me and a lot of my friends who are usually into heavier stuff, because seriously everyone loves a little Daft Punk here and there.
