People tend to forget that there was a time when Will Smith was literally the coolest man on the planet. Before his son was the Karate Kid and his daughter made everyone’s favorite slightly creepy guilty pleasure song with Whip My Hair, before he stopped rapping the theme song for every movie he made, Will Smith was pretty much the greatest person ever. He could just about literally do no wrong. Not only was he a blockbuster movie star and the star of an awesome sitcom, but he could rap, too. His rapping was fun and simple and all-inclusive and didn’t use any bad words, which might make him worse in some peoples’ eyes but made him just about my personal hero when I was five. Will Smith was just it, for a long time. And songs like this explain why. Say what you want about it, but you loved this song when it came out, and you probably still love it now.
