Somebody That I Used to Know - Gotye (feat. Kimbra) (from the album Making Mirrors)
I hadn’t heard of this song until fairly recently, but it was the number one song in Australia for eight weeks. It’s the kind of thing that I’d like to hear on the radio more often- its lyrics are great, it’s performed with an abundance of emotion by people who definitely know how to sing, and it’s musically innovative but yet still recognizably catchy. It hearkens back to the 80’s but sounds like something that could only happen now, fitting a xylophone solo into an emotional, confrontational ballad. Gotye is a great songwriter, and it’d be nice if his stuff could be number one here in America, too.
